Which Kind Of Driveway Surface Is Best For You?

When you are tired of dealing with your gravel driveway, you need to figure out what you are going to do instead. You have several options. You could decide to go with pavers, concrete, or asphalt. They each have pros and cons, so it's up to you to look at them and decide which will work best for your situation.

Pavers

These are usually concrete blocks that can come in a variety of shapes. The pavers are placed so they fit together, with a small gap in between for sand to go in because that will help secure the paver. One of the pros of having your driveway made out of pavers is that you don't have to wait for anything to dry. Your driveway is good to go as soon as the last paver is in place. The pavers can also be used to create all kinds of patterns just by changing the colors, sizes, or shapes of the pavers being used. On the other hand, a driveway made out of pavers tends to be more expensive than other choices. Part of that is because it is more labor-intensive to install a paver driveway.

Concrete

Concrete is a common driveway surface. It gets used in a lot of places, not just driveways. One of the pros that come with concrete is that it can be easily cleaned off when there is a lot of snow. You can quickly plow it or use a snowblower without worrying about things being thrown up by the snowblower. Concrete is also relatively durable, which means that it can stand up to a lot of abuse. However, if there is some damage to your concrete driveway, you have to have the entire driveway replaced to fix it.

Asphalt

Asphalt is another common driveway surface. It is a mix of bitumen and aggregate. Asphalt is generally applied hot so that the bitumen stays malleable, and once it cools down, it becomes a solid surface. Asphalt is generally lower priced than the rest of the other driveway options. It is also less prone to cracking because it is slightly flexible. You do need to have your asphalt driveway sealed periodically to protect it.

If you are going to get a new driveway, you have a lot of choices. Weigh the pros and cons of each choice to decide which works best for you. For more info, contact a local asphalt paving service.
